Affiliate Marketers Need to Get On the Google+ Train

February 06, 2012 | 1 Comment

There has been a long, drawn out sigh arising from the Internet world over Google+.  People are comfortable with Twitter and Facebook and have likely developed a satisfactory following that took time and patience to build.

They don’t want to start over.  They don’t want to begin the uphill battle of circling in order to be circled back and incentivizing readers to follow their page.  It’s like having a wave wash away your sand castle and having to start from scratch.  You know how to build it, but you just don’t want to.

As an affiliate marketer the demand of integrating an effective social media strategy on top of your other entrepreneurial requirements is tough enough.  Now you have to add another network?

Yes.

The Search plus Your World function takes the need to join Google+ to another level.  Whereas before, Google+ was just another network for sharing and spreading information, it has now taken social media and SEO and slammed them together.

A Demand for Content In-Demand

SPYW takes what Google Panda and the freshness updates demanded and integrates the social media world.   You will still have to build relevant, keyword-rich content for SEO purposes, but you will also have to make it shareable.

Your ability to adhere to Google’s rules will, eventually, be just as important as your content’s popularity when it comes to search engine rankings.

Since Twitter and Facebook will not open their content to Google, Google+ is the only way to make your social interactions relevant in searches.

Not every affiliate is a hyperactive social marketer and not every affiliate feels a huge pull towards SEO, but the likelihood that neither of them impacts you is slim to nil.  They are important now, but the surface has only been scratched on how it will affect affiliates’ future success.

With many new platforms, it’s alright to sit on the sideline and see how things play out before you jump in, but with Google+, the sooner you start the better you’ll be.  This is a very prominent Google product and it likely won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

8 Google+ Suggestions For Affiliates

1. Try building your brand through a personal page.  The business pages only allow you to circle other businesses pages; that leaves you waiting to be circled.

2.  Follow people as closely related to your niche as possible.  Google+ is a pretty clique-y environment and it’s easier to build amongst likeminded people.

3.  Incorporate more pictures and video, they are showing up at the top of SPYW searches instead of the bottom.

4.  Add a +1 page to your social sharing options on your website.

5.  Add a link to your Google+ page on your site.

6.  Share content on Google+ that is not only interesting and sharable, but also conscientious of your keywords.

7.  Add +1 buttons to your promoted products.

8.  Jump into conversations.  The commenting that occurs on Google+ feels like a forum and opens the door to make a lot of connections.

Google+ has a long way to go before it’s as refined as other networks.  It has even further to go to make SPYW an effective addition to searches, but it is coming.  Affiliates have the choice to either begin today and get a jumpstart or play catch up when they realize the train is quickly rolling forward.
