How’s Your Industry Jargon?
Affiliate tracking software company HasOffers created a survey to determine what terminology people in the affiliate marketing industry prefer. With so many people from such different backgrounds within the industry, communication and jargon can vary from person to person.
The Preferred Affiliate Vocabulary survey includes the answers from 200 industry professionals, most of which, happen to be affiliates. The three categories of respondents is broken down as 40% affiliates, 31% networks, 29% advertisers.
The results of the survey provide answers as to the majority preferences toward each term in question. The clearest example in terminology preference came from the question, “What do you call an event generated by a user that an advertiser is willing to pay for?” Can you guess the majority answer?
Sixty-nine percent answered “conversion.” Other answers ranked as 15% answered “action”, 13% answered “sales”, and 3% had no opinion.
Although each question shows a majority preference, a few answers revealed some close battles only separated by a few percentage points. Take a look at the infographic by HasOffers to see what terms the affiliate marketing industry prefers.
